9 easy steps to change the world today

1. Clean with vinegar and water

I use a mixture of 1 part vinegar to 3 parts water as an all-purpose spray cleaner (storing it in a reused spray bottle) and produce wash. I buy vinegar which comes in a glass bottle. Only the cap is plastic.

2. Give up bottled water

Not only does it come in a plastic bottle, but tremendous resources are used to extract, bottle, and ship it. And many brands of bottled water are simply filtered tap water. Get a reusable stainless steel bottle, fill it up with tap water before leaving the house, and refill it wherever you happen to be.

3. Use your own wood cutlery

These ‘Green’ cutlery are usually categorized as ‘biodegradable’ – those you can dispose of without doing harm to the environment, or ‘reusable’ which means those you can simply wash and wipe and they’re good to use again.

4. eat less meat

you don´t have to become a veganer right know but you can start with eating only every two days meat... or just one time a week.

5. use textile or old newspaper instant of wrapping paper

Every Christmas, gift giving results in piles of non-recyclable wrapping paper, ribbons, bows and bags!

6. take less the airplane or Compensate your CO2

This calculates the amount of CO2 emissions released and buys compensation certificates confirming that the same amount of CO2 has been committed elsewhere through climate protection projects. This CO2 compensation equals its own emissions.

4. Use bar soap instead of liquid hand soap

People sometimes worry that sharing a bar of soap is less sanitary than sharing a bottle of liquid soap. But think about it: the bar soap gets rinsed off every time you use it. The plastic pump? Not so much. Where do you think the most germs are accumulating?

5. Take large glass jars or other reusable containers to the store.

Use these wherever an item needs to be weighed. The employee can tare the jar on the scale before filling with whatever cheese, olives, fish, sandwich meat, or deli products you want. Jars with screw-top lids are handy for wet foods.

6. Avoid non-recycable food packaging

Lots of plastic cannot be recycled, particularly composite plastics. Plastic food cartons and packaging turn up on beaches every day, which means we're not disposing of them properly. Once in the ocean they can get mistaken for food and choke animals, attract toxins and break down into thousands of pieces.
